It depends on the file. PDFs with lots of pages, fonts, or form fields usually shrink noticeably. Heavily scanned or image-only PDFs may only shrink a little, since deep image recompression needs more processing than a browser tool can safely do — for those, try exporting at a lower quality from the original source if possible.

Each PDF can be up to 40MB. Very large files may take a few extra seconds since everything is processed on your own device rather than a server.

PDFs that are mostly text are already small and PDFs with heavy images may shrink more. Results vary with the file, so try it and compare the sizes.
